The Glow Skin Society Starter Routine
The step-by-step routine explained
1
Cleanse
AM + PM
Use a low-pH cleanser morning and night. The COSRX cleanser removes impurities without stripping your skin's natural oils or disrupting the acid mantle — the protective barrier most Western cleansers damage. Use lukewarm water, massage for 30 seconds, rinse thoroughly.
2
Essence
AM + PM
On damp skin, press 2–3 drops of snail mucin essence into your face. This is the step that most beginners are shocked by — within 2 weeks your skin texture genuinely transforms. Don't rub, just press. Wait 30 seconds before moving to the next step.
3
Moisturize
AM + PM
The Laneige Water Sleeping Mask doubles as a daytime moisturizer for beginners — use a small coin-sized amount in the morning and a slightly larger amount at night. The sleeping mask format locks in everything underneath and you wake up with noticeably plumper skin.
4
SPF (morning only)
AM Only
This is the single most important skincare step, full stop. SPF prevents 90% of visible skin aging. The Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun is weightless, has zero white cast, and protects with SPF 50+ PA++++ — the highest protection rating available. Apply generously as the last step every single morning.
What NOT to buy when starting out
Skip these until you have the basics working
- Exfoliating acids (AHA/BHA toners) — too much too soon causes sensitivity. Add after 4 weeks.
- Retinol or retinoids — powerful but needs a stable barrier first. Start after 3 months.
- Multiple serums at once — you won't know what's working. One at a time.
- Sheet masks as your main routine — fun but not a substitute for daily products.
- Expensive toners — a basic hydrating toner is optional; your essence does the same job.
Total cost breakdown
| Product | Brand | Price | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Low pH Cleanser | COSRX | $14 | ~3 months |
| Snail 96 Essence | COSRX | $24 | ~3 months |
| Water Sleeping Mask | Laneige | $23 | ~3 months |
| Relief Sun SPF 50+ | Beauty of Joseon | $18 | ~2 months |
| Total starter kit | $79 | 2–3 months |
That works out to roughly $26–40 per month — less than one high-end Western serum, with better results for most skin types.
